Impotence Causes

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is also called impotence. If you have ED, you find it difficult to get and keep an erection hard enough for sexual intercourse.

Many people think impotence is rare. However, it is very common. About 10 percent of American males have it. That's 10 to 15 million men. If you have ED, you are far from alone.

It is important to remember that impotence is a condition and not a disease. It is caused when something in your body or your mind is not working right.

About 85 percent of ED has a physical cause. Only about 10 percent has a psychological cause. The remaining 5 percent has an "unknown" cause.

Physical impotence can come from heart disease, prostate cancer, diabetes or Peyronie's disease, to name just a few causes. In fact, ED often is a symptom of another disease. This is particularly true if you are a diabetic.

The leading causes of psychological ED are stress, anxiety and depression.

There is no need to live with impotence. Today, experienced doctors can successfully treat almost every case.
